If You Forgot AC Maintenance—It’s Still Not Too Late

air-conditioning-manometer-pressure-refrigerantDid you forget to arrange for AC maintenance in Staten Island, NY this spring? Lots of people forget about this important regular service for their HVAC equipment unless they get reminders. With so much going on to take care of a home after winter subsides, calling up from AC maintenance from a dependable contractor can sometimes fall off the list of priorities and never get back on the list.

But if you did miss spring maintenance for your air conditioner, don’t decide that you can just “let it slide” for a year. It’s extremely important for the health of the HVAC system, your budget, and your household’s general comfort to have this inspection and tune-up work done once a year—even if it ends up done in the middle of summer.

Let’s look at some reasons why Midsummer Maintenance is still a good idea.

You’re guarded against a failure in the dog days of summer

August and September often feature some of the hottest days of the year here in New York. Your air conditioner still has plenty of work ahead of it, and the strain on the system during these later summer days may be enough to cause it to break down if it wasn’t maintained. An AC that breaks down on one of the hottest days of the year is much tougher to have repaired fast—because there’ll be plenty of other homeowners calling for service for their broken-down air conditioners! Getting maintenance helps prevent this sort of cooling emergency.

Wear and tear removal, no matter the season

One of the primary jobs of annual maintenance is to tune-up, adjust, and clean the air conditioner. This entails cleaning off the coils, tightening electrical connections, lubricating moving parts, replacing capacitors, etc. These tasks reduce the wear and tear that builds up on the air conditioner over time, and it’s good for the AC’s longevity and general performance to have it scheduled each year—it doesn’t matter what time it gets done, so long as it gets done.

Getting the best return on your cooling system investment

All of the work done during maintenance combines to make an air conditioner more likely to live up to and beyond its manufacturer’s warranty. If an AC has annual maintenance, it should be able to last 10 to 15 years. If it doesn’t have the maintenance done regularly, that number can drop in half, leading to an expensive replacement done many years early. If you keep up with AC maintenance, even if it means doing it later than usual, you’re much more likely to get a better return on your investment in the cooling system.

Peace of mind

This is the great intangible benefits of regular air conditioning maintenance: the quiet reassurance that when you need your home cooled down on a hot day, the AC will come on and do its job. If you don’t have maintenance done at all this year, you’re more likely to worry about the air conditioning failing on you—and that’s not a great place to be during summer!
